1977 Airstream Ambassador

When was the last time you started an epically cool project and quickly found you were in over your head? Often, restoration projects are like nesting boxes… you keep opening one only to find another box waiting for you.
This happens to many of our clients, and in this projects case even the contractor became overwhelmed. Fortunately, the experienced Airstream restoration team at Reparadise stepped in for the rescue – with scrapping initial repairs as the first move. Peeling off the recently installed subfloor revealed major problems: large cuts in the frame that happened during the original demolition process and overlooked rusted frame members. Instead of fixing, we completely re-built the chassis with higher quality steel and upgraded the torsion axles.

Moving on up, the search-and-rescue team exposed roof woes when our detectives found wood screws in the roof’s poorly sealed lap joints (yikes!) This led to the removal of the contractor-installed bubble foil and fiberglass insulation … exposing more electrical and plumbing issues.

Reparadise skillfully addressed the multitude of blunders. Once done fixing “fixes” and solidifying the substructure, it was time to start the fun stuff. We work closely with our owners when choosing materials for a re-do. High-end options and luxury details are what give each trailer their own personality. Here, you’ll find; walnut hardwood interior cabinetry, champagne bronze details throughout (drawer pulls, faucet, lighting, switches, dimmers), and much more.

At the rear of this Airstream lives the master bedroom with a custom queen-size bed, Rejuvenation sconce lighting, along with custom curved and tufted upholstery… matching what you’ll find in the dinette. Ensuring there’s plenty of sleeping space, a powered Scandvik table mount easily transforms the dinette into another bed. Between these two ends, sits a large center bathroom featuring teak floors, wet bath, and a Dometic toilet.

On the opposite side of the bathroom custom cabinetry provides plenty of space, and hides two large Isotherm drawer fridge and freezer. Adding to the galley details is an under-mount stainless-steel sink, Furion oven and 3 burner stove top, and Delta Trinsic Touch 20 faucet in champagne bronze.

Moving to the exterior, you’ll notice two awnings… not really a big deal in the world of ’70s vintage Airstreams, as plenty came from the factory optioned that way. What sets this Ambassadors awnings apart from the rest is all it takes to deploy them is the push of a button.

This required our in-house engineer to build custom dies and bending the arms to fit ’70s Airstream curvature. As of writing, according to Zip-Dee, we are the only company to install powered awnings on a pre-1998 Airstream to date.

Also added to the exterior of this one-of-a-kind Ambassador are multiple vista/safari windows to light up the spacious interior. Finishing of the exterior is a five-step-polish by Shinny Metal Chad, which was no easy task given the brandished (over-heated) metal from previous individuals attempt to polish this old Airstream’s iconic aluminum exterior.
