Like all of our current Airstream restorations, we completely rewired the shell before insulating with expanding closed-cell foam. Following that, we re-installed the original interior skin and restored the endcaps. Before mounting the custom, ambient-lit walnut ceiling detail, we sprayed a fresh coat of synthetic Shellack primer and pre-catilized, water-based epoxy finish to the walls.
At the rear, this Airstream’s bathroom features a tiled shower and custom vanity. But, most noteworthy is the client-supplied stained glass placed in a custom black-walnut door we milled in-house. Another standout piece to this Overlander is the booth seating up front, which turns into a queen-sized bed.
A simple process, to create a large cozy sleeping space, you release a hidden latch then slide the seating forward – and, for storage, there’s plenty underneath for bedding. Underfoot, Marmoleum flooring is easy to maintain, among numerous other benefits.
Finally, for entertainment, nine speakers powered by a 1200watt amp via a Bluetooth-operated signal processor ensures clear and clean sound throughout this space. It’s easily controlled from your device of choice, and all components are hidden out of sight except for the speakers with custom hardwood surrounds.
From concept to finished product, this Airstream restoration took about five months to complete.
