Iglhaut Allrad 4×4 Sprinter 170 SAGA Adventure Build

Built for the Terrain. Finished for the Journey.

Some builds are about the destination. This one is about being ready for all of them.

The Iglhaut Allrad 4×4 conversion is widely regarded as the gold standard in Sprinter off-road platforms — engineered in Germany, built to go places most vehicles won’t even attempt. When one landed in our shop, we treated it with the respect it deserved. SAGA Vans fitted it with a full custom interior that matches the platform’s capability point for point: custom cabinetry, premium finishes, and a 48V off-grid power system developed in partnership with Dyness that keeps you running long after the pavement ends.

Most vans are built for the road. This one is built for what’s beyond it — and when you finally make camp, it’s ready to make you comfortable.

Extreme platform. Uncompromising interior. Built by SAGA Vans.

Interior

Built Tough Outside. Built Right Inside.

Step inside and the Iglhaut’s off-road credibility is matched immediately by what SAGA Vans built within it. This isn’t a stripped-down overlander with a sleeping bag thrown in the back — it’s a fully realized living space designed for extended time in the field.

The galley is fully loaded: full sink, induction cooktop, refrigerator, and microwave — everything you need to eat well whether you’re parked at a trailhead or two hours past the last cell tower. Overhead storage runs the full length of the van, keeping gear organized and out of the way. When the day is done, the Murphy bed deploys cleanly, and the convertible seating, including removable L-track jump-seat, gives you flexibility depending on how many people are along for the ride.

A flexible workstation, swivel seats, toilet, and rear shower hookup round out a living space that punches well above its footprint. The 48V off-grid power system keeps everything running — lights, appliances, devices — without needing a hookup or an apology.

Most overlanders make you choose between capability and comfort. This one doesn’t.

The Build

Behind the Build

The Iglhaut Allrad 4×4 Sprinter 170 arrived at our shop as one of the most capable off-road platforms on the market. Our job was to build an interior worthy of it — and we didn’t cut corners getting there.

The build started from the ground up, literally. A structural aluminum floor was installed first, with L-track integrated directly into the framework — giving the interior a clean, flush finish while providing a flexible, bombproof tie-down system that can handle whatever gets loaded in. From there, the shell was fully insulated, pre-wired with the SAGA mil-spec wiring harness, and paneled throughout.

Cabinetry was CNC’d in-house from laminated UltraLight plywood — cut tight, assembled clean, and finished with the kind of detail work that’s easy to overlook until you’re living in the van and everything still fits and functions the way it did on day one. Every line, every joint, every panel gap was held to the same standard we apply across all our builds.

On the systems side, a Nations alternator was installed alongside our bench-built 48V power system — pre-tested before it ever touched the van, designed to drop in without a rats’ nest of field wiring. Victron monitoring keeps tabs on everything in real time. Dimmable zone lighting, fan and A/C controls, 12V outlets, and a full audio system were all routed and integrated cleanly into the harness from the start.

Iglhaut does the hard work underneath. We made sure the inside was built to the same standard.

The bed platform was built to make full use of the 170’s length — Murphy configuration with bedding storage and gear clearance underneath, keeping the floor clear and the layout uncluttered. Plumbing was kept simple and efficient: Torva deep well sink, 48 gallons of fresh water in two tanks, and an Aqua-Hot system handling both heat and hot water. The whole layout was designed to be practical, reliable, and cleanly executed. Nothing over-complicated, nothing added just to show off.

What makes this build different is what it’s sitting on. The Iglhaut Allrad 4×4 platform was already proven before it came through our doors — and once the SAGA interior was complete, the whole rig was put to work immediately. It’s now in the hands of its owner, doing exactly what it was built to do: going places most vans can’t, and arriving in comfort every time.

Exterior

Built for the Wild. Built to Last.

The Iglhaut Allrad conversion doesn’t need a bold wrap to make a statement — the platform speaks for itself. Lifted, armored, and equipped for terrain that would stop most vans cold, every exterior detail on this build has a job to do.

The Iglhaut 4×4 drivetrain and suspension system lay the foundation, paired with aggressive off-road tires and wheels, full underbody skid plate protection, and a snorkel for water crossings and dusty backcountry runs. A Paragon roof rack handles gear up top, the Fiamma awning deploys a basecamp in minutes, and the minimal tire carrier keep everything secure when the trail gets rough. A Paragon rear ladder rounds out the exterior with clean, functional access to the roof. Exterior Baja Designs lighting means the adventure doesn’t have to stop when the sun does.

No flares. No fuss. Just a rig that looks exactly like what it is.

Up front, a Owl vans sleek bumper with integrated winch and amber Baja Designs lights give the van recovery-ready capability with enough light to illuminate any trail or foggy road. The side steps and Owl Vans rear step platform offer easier access and solid footing at camp, while doubling as exterior staging zones for gear.

Lighting controls are integrated into the dash and tied to the onboard power system, including RGB rock lights for visibility and desert critter deterrence.

Whether it’s crawling through a river crossing, cresting a ridgeline, or pulling into basecamp after a thousand miles of mixed terrain, the Iglhaut Allrad Sprinter 170 looks and performs exactly like what it is — one of the most capable overland platforms ever built, finished to SAGA’s standard inside and out.

The Iglhaut Allrad 4×4 Sprinter 170 isn’t just one of the most capable overland platforms on the planet — it’s proof of what happens when that capability meets SAGA craftsmanship. Every detail of this build, from the structural aluminum floor and mil-spec wiring harness to the CNC cabinetry and bench-built 48V power system, was executed to the same standard we bring to every van that rolls through our shop.

This rig was built for a customer who knew exactly what they wanted — a platform that could handle anything the terrain threw at it, with an interior refined enough to call home at the end of a hard day. That’s the brief we work from on every build. Capable where it counts. Comfortable where it matters. Built to last.

If you’ve been waiting for a reason to take the leap — this is it. Let’s put together something you’ll still be proud of ten years and a hundred thousand miles down the road.
